IWD: Ohaneze Women Leader, Rita Daniels Tasks Women On Skills, Seeks More Inclusion

As the global community marks the International Women’s Day (IWD), the Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Women Wing, Dr. Chief Dame, Hon. Rita Daniels Chukwuji (Esq) has urged women across the country to put extra efforts to upscale their skills so as to contribute optimally to the economic development of the country.

She described women as lubricants of the economy, especially with their visible presence in the small and medium scale sub-sector of the economy, urging for the provision of support to give more women access to economic activities.

In a statement on Friday, Hon. Rita Daniels Chukwuji who is also the Senior Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation to Delta state government while commending the Nigerian First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu on her efforts to advance the welfare of Nigerian women also urged her to draw more investment on women so as to develop them to brace up to surmount the growing economic challenges in the country

According to her, the gap between men and women inclusion in governance is still very large, seeking for a policy action that will implement the 35% affirmative action in governance.

Hon. Chukwuji explained that, women also need to know that they make up about 50 percent of the population, and so, ideally, should be found in 50 percent of the leadership positions.

“I see the gap as an opportunity for all of us to continually upscale ourselves, for us to put ourselves forward even for leadership positions and not to be discouraged if we don’t get it at all, first, try until we get there,” she said.

She further urged governments across the state to put in place mechanism to eliminate hostile actions and harmful cultural practices against Nigerian women.
