TODAY’S TOPIC: JESUS CONFIRMS HIS DEITY

Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that you order my steps today through your word as I meditate on it.

SCRIPTURE: JOHN 10:31-42
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; 36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. 39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand, 40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. 41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. 42 And many believed on him there.

Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th February 2024

This chapter ends with a positive note – “Beyond Jordan”, many people believed in Jesus (v.42). The people checked and confirmed that all that John said about Jesus was true (v.41). This action was in sharp contrast with what the Jews wanted to do in vs.31-33. Within the Jewish law, it was blasphemy for any man to claim to be God or the son of God (v.33). The Jews here saw Jesus as a mere man and so His claim that He was the Son of God was to them total blasphemy. This was the clear understanding of Jesus’ statement in v.30 which was the reason they tried to stone Him. Their preconceived ideas blocked their minds against the truth.

As we witness to other people about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us remember that we are bound to meet opposition. However, we can rely on the scriptures as Jesus did (v.35) and on His presence and concern for us. Rejoice in Christ, and let the world know that Jesus is indeed the Christ, the Messiah.

• The lives of all the members of SU Advisory Committees and Boards of departments
• Their commitment and sacrifices at ensuring things go well in the various departments
PRAY FOR:
• Good health and strength to prosper God’s work through them.
• Journey mercies, to and fro as they attend another meeting between 23rd to 25th February at Camp of Hope, Benin
• The Holy Spirit will guide them as they deliberate on issues that will move the departments forward

PRAY AGAINST:
• Disunity among the members
