RESIDENT IN OBOGORO COMMUNITY EXPRESS DISPLEASURE TO SAVE OBOGORO FROM EROSION.

 

The Residents of Obogoro Community wish to express their displeasure towards the Bayelsa State Government and Leadership of Obogoro Community at the manner at which the Canalization project awarded by the State Government is being handled. The erosion has claimed properties worth Millions of Naira, rendered many People homeless and also took so many lives.
Due to the erosion, one Mrs Uwaoma Johnson lost her life in the early hours of 11th October 2022. She was swept away together with her building in the erosion. Also, a Baby was lost this morning (12th October, 2022) due to the erosion.

A Resident who decided to be anonymous due to constant threat, noted with dismay that, up to this very moment nothing has been done by the State Government and Community Leaders in contacting the family of the Deceased. The Residents accused the Community Leaders for doing little or nothing at all regarding this life threatening issue. Most Residents also noted that, the Leadership of Obogoro Community is not doing enough towards salvaging the Ancestral home of the Indigenous People of Obogoro Community in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. In fact, the Obogoro situation gained publicity due to the constant efforts of the group “Save Obogoro from Erosion”.

It should be noted that, the Indigenous People of Obogoro Community are at the verge of losing their entire Ancestral home due to the erosion in as much as many have been made homeless. The effects of the erosion coupled with the flood have actually become unbearable to the People of Obogoro Community.
It is on this note; the People of Obogoro Community are appealing to the Government to pay the Contractors so they can return back to site. They are also appealing to Government and Relevant Agencies to please find an immediate and lasting solution towards salvaging the Ancestral Home of the Indigenous People and Residents of Obogoro Community.
