Edo House of Assembly impeaches deputy governor, Shaibu

The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, April 8, impeached the embattled state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.

The impeachment followed the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the state Chief Judge to probe allegations of misconduct against Shaibu.

Last week, the Edo House of Assembly started the impeachment proceedings against Shaibu. Twenty-one of the 24 lawmakers signed a petition to that effect.

They accused Shaibu of perjury and disclosure of the state government’s secrets.

Shaibu has been in a running battle with his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, after he signified interest to contest the run for governor of the state after Obaseki’s tenure ends in September 2024.
