X user tackles EKEDC for giving him only 12 hours of light despite charging those living in Band A areas more and promising to give them 20 hours of light

An X user has taken to the platform to tackle Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) for giving him only 12 hours of light despite charging people living in Band A areas more money and promising to give them 20 hours of light.

The X user who revealed that other residents have been commissioned to monitor the light supply, further stated that they will be taking their case to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and if possible seek legal redress over EKEDC not fulfilling their side of the deal despite charging them higher.

Dear @EKEDP

I am a band A customer as duly confirmed by your office (see screenshot below) Since your company did not waste time implementing the new N225/kWh, I have taken it upon myself to monitor your supply uptime and downtime hours from midnight 4th of April to 11:59 pm 4th of April 2024. In those 24 hours, you supplied my BAND A area with 12 hours and 4 minutes of electricity while downtime hours amounted to 11 hours, 55 minutes.

“It is pertinent to note that you have charged me and others in our area who bought units after the implementation at the new rate based on the fact that we are on Band and are expected to have nothing less than 20 hours of electricity supply in 24 hours. We have been charged upfront for a supposed premium service while your company has failed to honor your part of the bargain. The question I have which I am sure that many Nigerians you serve also have is, who pays for hours of downtime? Am I and other Nigerians in these shoes supposed to continue to pay N225/kWh while we are getting the service expected of a Band C customer (up to 12 hours uptime) ? Your swift response will be highly appreciated before this issue is escalated to the appropriate quarters.

“The template is already set. Other people in our estate who work from home permanently have been commissioned to monitor uptime and downtime and send a report to the group chat for the days and hours I am not available to do so.

“We are already discussing the next steps in the estate group chat. They sure don’t know what’s coming for them. I fit no sleep for the next one-week dey monitor and record, I no mind. Rubbish!”
