TURNAH HAILS PEACEFUL CONDUCT AS PDP ELECTS NEW WARD EXECUTIVES IN BAYELSA

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, successfully conducted its ward congresses across the 105 wards of the state, electing new ward executives in what party leaders described as a peaceful and well-coordinated exercise.
The congresses mark the official commencement of a new round of internal party elections aimed at repositioning the PDP for greater cohesion and electoral victories ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reports from across the eight local government areas indicated a significant turnout of party faithful, with the exercise widely adjudged peaceful and orderly in all centres.
In Kolo Ward 9, home of Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, Acting Chairman of the PDP in Bayelsa State and Zonal Secretary, South South Zone, the congress took on a carnival-like atmosphere. Members and supporters from the four communities of Kolo 1, Kolo 2, Kolo 3, and Amorukeni converged at the Kolo Primary School field to participate in the exercise.
Speaking with journalists at the end of the congress in Kolo, Turnah expressed satisfaction with the turnout and conduct of party members across the state.
“The PDP is organic with the people of Bayelsa State; we have PDP running in our DNA. If you were not here today, you might feel or believe that there is no more PDP in Bayelsa State. But I am sure you have seen for yourselves. When the time comes, you will see that Bayelsa is PDP and PDP is Bayelsa,” he declared.
Turnah commended the enthusiasm and active participation of party members, thanking Bayelsans for their continued faith in the PDP. He noted that the party has played a central role in shaping the political landscape of the state and expressed appreciation to members for standing by what he described as the truth.
He further lauded the peaceful disposition demonstrated by party faithful across all 105 wards, describing the exercise as a testament to the unity and maturity within the party’s ranks.
According to him, the successful conduct of the ward congresses speaks loud of the vitality of the PDP in Bayelsa State and signals the beginning of a renewed drive to strengthen its grassroots structures.
Party stakeholders described the exercise as a critical step toward rebuilding and consolidating the party’s internal framework, ahead of forthcoming polls.
The exercise was monitored by representatives from the national and zonal leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, who were on ground to ensure compliance with the party’s guidelines and procedures. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present to observe the process, in line with statutory requirements. Their presence added credibility and transparency to the congresses, reinforcing confidence in the integrity and orderly conduct of the exercise across the state.
With the smooth conclusion of the ward congresses, attention now shifts to the next phases of the party’s internal electoral process, as the PDP positions itself strategically for future political contests.
The peaceful conduct and impressive turnout may serve as a morale booster for the party as it prepares for the evolving political dynamics leading to 2027.
