So Many injured, properties destroyed as PDP supporters clash in Yenagoa
Yenagoa—A group of persons suspected to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State clashed over disagreement on the choice of candidate to contest for the Federal House of Representatives in 2023.
According to report, the incident which occurred at Kpansia in the Yenagoa metropolis caused pandemonium and violence in the area leading to the burning of cars and matchet attacks on individuals and passers-by alike.
It was gathered that the supporters involved in the violent fracas allegedly belong to two different camps of the State Commissioner and a member of the State House of Assembly.
It was gathered that the fight was allegedly triggered by an offensive campaign dance around the Kpansia area by supporters of the Commissioner, while the angry rivals launched an attack.
However, the arrival of policemen at the scene of the clash calmed tensions as the burnt vehicles were towed to the state police headquarters.
It was further gathered that the key actors in the clash have been summoned by the State Commissioner of Police for an emergency meeting. However, the outcome of the meeting is not known yet at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, has confirmed the incident and stated that the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
