Scripture Union Daily Guide 11th January 2021 – Wrong Judgment Or Right Judgment

You are reading Today Devotional Message On Scripture Union Daily Guide 11th January 2021. May God Almighty bless you and inspire you as you study this passage.

TODAY’S TOPIC: WRONG JUDGMENT OR RIGHT JUDGMENT

Opening Prayer: Oh Lord, grant me divine guidance as I read and meditate on your word in Jesus name.

Scripture: Matthew 7:1-12

1 “Judge[a] not, that you be not judged.

2 For with what [b]judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any warning for me to heed?

Today’s Outline On Scripture Union Daily Guide 11th January 2021:

Is it always wrong to judge others? Apostle Paul makes it clear that this is not the case (Rom 14: 1 – 5, 10 – 13). This means that there is a right way of judging others and a wrong way. Because of the grace of God that abounds today, everyone has the opportunity to repent of his or her sins and be forgiven by God. It is therefore very wrong to pass a final judgment on anyone who commits a sin.

This does not mean that we should overlook the wrongdoing of others. Here, Jesus is teaching us to avoid hypocrisy (John 8:4-11). According to the Yoruba proverb, “We see the back of other peoples’ heads; others see ours.” Are you quick and eager to see wrongdoing in other people when you do not even realise that you are probably much worse? On the other hand, are you defensive when people point out to you your wrongdoing? Scripture Union Daily Guide 11th January 2021

Unless you are open to correction by friends, you cannot improve your life? Dogs and pigs (v.6) represent those who have contempt for godly things. The more they hear the gospel of salvation the more they harden their hearts against it. See Titus 3:9.

Prayer is not a shopping list we present to God. However, asking Him for what we need is an essential part of praying. This we should do with serious determination and persistence. By doing so, we underline the seriousness of our own needs and our faith in God as the only one who can help us. Notice the golden rule (v. 12).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Practice/Word Application
• For Action: Look at your brother’s fault with generosity of spirit and examine your own as with a magnifying glass.

Closing Prayer:
• Pray for God’s forgiveness. • Thank God for the blood of Jesus that was shed for our salvation and total deliverance.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Job 22:28
28 You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.
