Russia releases statement after Trump reads out Zelensky’s letter

Russia has responded amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine following President Zelensky’s controversial visit to the White House. Intended to strengthen ties and discuss key negotiations, the meeting quickly turned tense, with President Trump and Vice President Vance criticizing Zelensky’s stance on peace talks and accusing him of failing to appreciate U.S. support for Ukraine. Tensions rose further when Trump accused Zelensky of risking World War III and the lives of millions by refusing to negotiate.

The Kremlin reacted to the fallout, particularly Trump’s decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine. Moscow welcomed this move, viewing it as a step toward peace. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the decision “the best contribution to the cause of peace,” as Russia has long criticized Western support for Ukraine, claiming it prolongs the war.

Zelensky, after his abrupt exit from the White House, sent a letter to Trump and U.S. Congress on March 4, signaling Ukraine’s readiness for peace talks. He also reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to finalizing a deal on rare earth minerals, which had been overshadowed by the meeting. Trump’s response was cautiously optimistic, emphasizing the need for direct negotiations with Russia.

Despite these diplomatic efforts, the war continues, with recent Russian drone strikes on Odesa killing one and injuring others. As the situation remains fluid, the future of peace talks is uncertain.
