The Bayelsa State Police Command has marked the maiden edition of the Police National Day with a series of activities, including a medical outreach and environmental sanitation exercise in Yenagoa. As part of the activities, officers and men of the Command embarked on a sanitation exercise from the State Police Headquarters to Hospital Junction, culminating at the Swali Ultra Modern Market, where a free medical outreach was also conducted for traders and residents on Friday, April 5, 2024.

The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Alonyenu Francis Idu, emphasized the importance of community engagement in policing, stating that the exercise was aimed at strengthening the bond between the police and the people they serve. He noted that the approval of April 7 as *Police National Day* by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a recognition of the sacrifices made by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring national security and harmony.

CP Idu explained that the outreach and cleaning exercise were part of activities leading up to the grand finale of the *Police National Day Celebration* scheduled to take place in Abuja.

Further more he expressed appreciation to the people of Bayelsa for their cooperation and support, stressing that the security and social harmony currently being enjoyed in the state were a result of the strong partnership between the police and the community. Noting that “For the past year, we have received tremendous support from the people of Bayelsa, and this has contributed immensely to maintaining peace and security in the state. We believe that effective policing thrives on community collaboration, and we are committed to strengthening that relationship.”

CP Idu also urged officers and men of the command to remain dedicated to their duties and reciprocate the President’s recognition of their service with renewed commitment to national security.
