MY THOUGHTS ON THE SLAPPING AND MANHANDLING OF ODUMEJE by Endurance Keyamo

In many cases, we are not only inconsistent with our thinking and judgement of issues, we are also very sentimental and blinded very often by religion and other illogical considerations. Make no mistake about it; I am totally against the manhandling or slapping of any human being as it is an infringement on the right to personal dignity. So I am against the manhandling and slapping of Odumeje by the Anambra State Demolition Taskforce (or whatever is their name).

Having said the above, I would like to quickly remind my readers of the popular biblical saying that we should do to others what we want others to do to us. I am saying this particularly to those who have been looking at only one side of the coin; those who have been reacting as if what happened to Odumeje is very strange; those wanting all hell to break lose because Odumeje was slapped. Let me quickly remind readers that violence in the guise of religious deliverance has been the stock in trade of Odumeje and many other religious leaders in this country. Have we forgotten so soon how the same Odumeje slapped an alleged native doctor that came to his church for deliverance? Have we forgotten so soon how the same Odumeje manhandles even pregnant women in the name of deliverance? Why do we condone such inhuman action and frown at the manhandling of Odumeje? Or are those people Odumeje manhandles in his church less human? This same man has been seen several times carrying machete and threatening to fight native doctors.

My whole point is this: we live in a civilised society and we should be civilised in all ramifications. Pastors should know their limit and stop using their status to abuse others. For instance, a pastor (not Odumeje) who goes about with intimidating police men and body guards has no moral right to talk about police brutality. That ‘big’ pastor that slapped a young girl who claimed to be a witch has no moral right to talk against wife battery and domestic violence. Pastors should stop taking the general public for a ride. Many people don de wise up now.

Odumeje got exactly the treatment he has been dishing out to so many. The fact that his victims do not have a voice to cry or they are too hypnotized to speak up does not mean they are less human
