Group lauds Ewhrudjakpo on acting capacity, speaks on Idumange’s arrest

Bayelsa Youths under the aegis of the Prosperity Youths Coalition (PYC) have hailed the Bayelsa State deputy governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, for his handling of the state affairs upon Governor Douye Diri embarking on his official annual leave on Monday, 25th November 2024.
The group said it was a display of uncommon wisdom by Governor Diri to pick Lawrence as deputy who they said has shown enough capacity to handle the state in the Governor’s absence.
The group led by its President, Comr. Doubara Kumoku, made the remarks on Tuesday while fielding questions from newsmen regarding the current state of the state.

Also speaking, the secretary of the group, Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta, said Ewhrudjakpo in acting capacity as Governor has done very well.
According to him, the deputy governor has been focused on the duties as transmitted and directed by Governor Diri.
His words, “The deputy governor a humble man is not in awe by the expanse of power presently at his disposal but is ensuring to deliver on the mandate of prosperity as envisaged by the governor.
“He has moved on steadily to ensure that Bayelsans do no feel a vacuum in governance and leadership. As a joint vision bearer, he understands the mandate and has continually shown that he would not in any way derail from the path set by his boss the Miracle Governor.”
Commenting on the reported arrest of John Idumange, a renowned journalist in the state, Igbeta described as unfortunate the actions of the former Managing Director of Radio Bayelsa.
He said “Idumange with his supposed experience should know better the depth of malicious and provocative comments on the private life of the governor and his family.”
He revealed that Idumange was charged with criminal defamation of character for making libelous publications touching on the private life of the Bayelsa State Governor.
Igbeta however stated that since the matter is now subject before a competent law court, little can be said on the subject.
The PYC scribe thanked the Acting Governor for handling the matter “with restraint and allowing the law to take its course, as opposed to some other regimes were Idumange would have been bundled into dark tinted vehicle and taken to an undisclosed location, leaving his family and the general public in the dark as to his fate and whereabouts.”
He continued, “But because the Prosperity administration is a civilized one operating within the universally accepted democratic norms of law and order, it has rather limited itself to the operations of the law where the matter was heard in a court and Idumange now remanded at Okaka Prisons, known and accessible to everyone including family members.”
Igbeta further urged youths in the state particularly social media influencers and budding journalists to always be mindful of their public comments and publications.
“Youths must resist the temptation to make unverifiable posts especially when it bothers on the private lives and images of other people whether or not they are in position of authority, youths must avoid ordeals such as the one John Idumange has put himself,” he warned.
