FEDERAL GOVERNMENT BACKS 30% YOUTH QUOTA BILL: PLEDGE SUPPORT FOR YOUTH FRIENDLY AGENDA .

The Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Ayodele joins the advocacy efforts for the Youth Quota in Parliament Bill, which aims to reserve 30% of parliamentary seats for young Nigerians (25-35 years), including women and people with disabilities.

The Honorable Minister pledged to collaborate with the advocacy, amplify the bill, ensuring young people’s voices are protected and represented in the constitution.

The bill, sponsored by Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, Chairman, House Committee on Youth, has passed its first reading at the National Assembly on November 12th. The minister highlighted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has set a precedent for youth participation in government, appointing more youths to his cabinet than any previous government.

“The present administration has reassured that quota for youth is part of its policy agenda,” the minister said, expressing optimism about the bill’s prospects. He commended the team leading the advocacy, led by Hon. Blessing Oyefeso, President, Nigeria Youths in Politics and Team Lead, Youth Quota in Parliament Bill Advocacy, for their efforts and works in advancing youth participation in government.

The minister’s commitment to working with youth-led teams is seen as a major step forward. The Youth Quota in Parliament Bill is a crucial step towards empowering Nigerian youth and promoting their participation in decision making and governance.
