EROSION AND FLOOD IN OBOGORO COMMUNITY

Coastal erosion and flooding are two natural disasters confronting the Obogoro community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The people has been seeking the collaboration of the State and Federal Governments to save their land as more buildings/land cave into the encroaching river yearly.
The community which is among community’s who recoding death in this years flooded 2022 in Bayelsa State.
Residents of Obogoro Community are appealing to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State,Sen Douye Diri,to come to their rescue and tackle the menace as the water is receding.

Ada Gwegwe a frontline activist in the Save Obogoro Campaingn,says more buildings will be eroded away in the coming weeks as the water is receding,according to him most residents pack their valuables and abandoned their homes because of the rampaging erosion in the area. Mr Gwegwe said we will continue to call on the Federal Government of Nigeria and NGOs to come to their aid, while appling to the Bayelsa State Government to mobilize the Contractors to go back to site and complete the canalazation project awarded by the Bayelsa State Government.
