Distinguished Business Executives, Entrepreneurs, Others Recognised At 10th African Iconic Awards

 

Notable and accomplished individuals who have made remarkable contributions in various sectors, including business, sports, leadership and politics across the continent have been honoured at the just concluded African Iconic Awards which held in Abuja,

The colourful 10th anniversary of the African Icon Awards at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, organised by Face of African Concept was an opportunity to celebrate a decade of spotlighting Africans who have continued to advance the frontiers for national development in their respective endeavours.

Alluring, scintillating and star-studded, the night featured grand dinner night, networking opportunities, and a host of special activities to mark the historic occasion.

The night of appreciation, recognition, reward for excellence, determination, resilience and professionalism had as the theme, “True African leaders, the power of the African youth in leadership”.

The former Deputy Director AU-ECOSOCC Sectoral committee on Women and Gender. Mrs. Omowumi Ogunrotimi in her keynote address called for necessary support for young people to give them opportunity to excel and have a brighter future. This she said has become necessary, especially considering that the resourceful youth population in Africa makes up the 70% of the population.

“We are a country lauded as giant of Africa for its size, natural endowment, and because of its people, yet, our greatest asset which is our youths, remain systematically under utilized, and politically disempowered.

“We are a continent where over 60 percent of its population is under 25, yet we are governed by structures and systems designed to exclude us”, she said.

She called for empowerment of young Africans so that they can take their rightful position in the governance system of the continent..

In his remarks, the Project Manager and convener of the awards, Ambassador Abraham Lawal said he feels fulfilled, giving honour to whom it’s due;

“I feel so much fulfilled recognizing individuals who have been exceptionally brilliant and passionate about their craft. I have been doing this for a decade, and I believe that the reward for good deeds is more work. I urge the awardees tonight to keep on doing their best and being the best”, he said.
