BREAKING: Court remands Okorocha in EFCC custody over alleged N2.9bn fraud

Senator Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State, has been ordered detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending the outcome of his bail application by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a close ally of the ex-governor, has joined Okorocha in EFCC custody.
The order was issued by Justice Inyang Ekwo on Monday, following the EFCC’s filing of a 17-count money laundering charge against Okorocha, Chinenye, and five companies.
The bail applications of Okorocha and Chinenye were adjourned until Tuesday by Justice Ekwo.
Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited are the five companies involved.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo state, to the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja on Monday morning for arraignment on fraud charges.
The EFCC had filed a 17-count charge against the former Imo governor before a federal high court in Abuja on January 31.
As of 9 a.m., the courtroom was already packed to the brim, with several others waiting for the proceedings to begin.
Okorocha, a presidential candidate on the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC) platform in 2023, was arrested last Tuesday after EFCC operatives broke into his Abuja home after a seven-hour siege.
Justice Inyang Ekwo will arraign the politician, who currently represents Imo West senatorial district in the National Assembly.
