An Open Letter to the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri

Dear Sir,

It is with utmost humility that I write to congratulate you on the victory of Bayelsa Queens Football Club in the 2024-2025 Nigeria Women Premier League season. This victory has once again proven your commitment in sports development in the state. Congratulations sir.

However, permit me to highlight another remarkable achievement. It will interest you to know that two Bayelsa-born players, Clinton Jephtah from Azuzuama/Lobia and Benjamin Precious Angiama/Amasoma, both from Southern Ijaw council areas, were part of the Nigeria U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, that won the bronze medal at the just concluded Africa U-20 Cup in Egypt and qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Chile this September.

As you may recall, during the Prosperity Cup finals at the Samson Siasia Stadium, you encouraged Bayelsa youth to take their careers seriously, highlighting the state’s abundant talent. It’s heartwarming to see these two Bayelsans representing Nigeria in the National U-20 team after a long drought. Notably, Benjamin Precious also played in the Prosperity Cup in Yenagoa, and was selected during one of the scouting programs you sponsored. He currently plays in Hoffenheim fc U19 Germany.

Your Excellency, I humbly appeal to you to officially receive these two Bayelsa stars so as to encourage other young talents in Bayelsa. It will further demonstrate your commitment to supporting our youths and believing in human development. Our hope is to see these boys and more Bayelsans make it to the senior national team.

Congratulations once again Your Excellency on the Bayelsa Queens’ victory, and we look forward to seeing more Bayelsa stars shine on the national stage.

Yours sincerely,
Ada Gwegwe
