GOVERNOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO APPOINTS HON. VICTOR URESHEMI AKANDE AS SPECIAL ADVISER ON STUDENT AFFAIRS AND MOBILIZATION
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Hon. Victor Ureshemi Akande as Special Adviser on Student Affairs and Mobilization. The appointment reflects the Governor’s confidence in a young, experienced and visionary leader whose track record in legislative governance, education policy, youth development and public administration has distinguished him over the years.
A proud son of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Hon. Akande is a seasoned legislative strategist and public administrator with more than a decade of experience in the National Assembly. Before this appointment, he served as Senior Legislative Aide on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund in the Office of the President of the Senate, where he provided strategic support on higher education policies, institutional development and educational interventions. He also previously served as Legislative Aide to the Chairmen of the House Committees on Appropriations and Agricultural Production and Services, contributing to legislative research, bill drafting, policy analysis and committee administration.
Beyond the legislature, Hon. Akande has built a rich professional profile across administration, marketing and the oil and gas sector, strengthening his leadership, management and organizational capacity. Academically, he is highly accomplished, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Political and Administrative Studies from the University of Port Harcourt, a Master’s degree in Legislative Studies from the University of Benin and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Legislative Studies from the Federal University Lokoja. He has also earned professional certifications in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Computer Technology, Microsoft Office Applications, Mobile Device Engineering and Desktop Publishing.
A passionate advocate for students and young people, Hon. Akande has consistently championed initiatives that promote educational advancement, leadership development and youth empowerment. As a former President of the National Association of Edo State Students (University of Port Harcourt Chapter) and later Director of Sports at the national level, he demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing the interests of Edo students. His outstanding service has earned him several recognitions, including the Most Loyal and Prominent Corps Member Award and the Most Supportive Youth in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area Award.
A committed grassroots politician, Hon. Akande has remained steadfast in his pursuit of inclusive governance and people-centred leadership, aspiring to represent Akoko-Edo Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly. His political philosophy is built on youth inclusion, educational transformation, community development and sustainable progress, making him one of the state’s emerging political leaders.
As Special Adviser on Student Affairs and Mobilization, Hon. Victor Ureshemi Akande is expected to strengthen the relationship between the Edo State Government and students across tertiary institutions, drive policies that enhance student welfare and educational excellence and expand opportunities for youth participation in governance. His appointment is widely regarded as a strategic step by the Okpebholo administration to harness competence, experience and youthful energy in delivering a brighter future for Edo students.
