The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has elected Barrister George Turnah as the new State Chairman following the successful conduct of the party’s state congress.
The congress, which attracted party leaders, delegates and stakeholders from across the eight local government areas of the state, also produced a new set of state executive members to pilot the affairs of the party for the next tenure.
Barr. Turnah, a seasoned legal practitioner and long-standing member of the party, emerged through a consensus arrangement widely supported by party stakeholders, reflecting what observers described as a strong show of unity within the party ranks.
In his acceptance remarks shortly after the declaration of results, the newly elected chairman expressed gratitude to party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him, promising to lead with fairness, inclusiveness and commitment to strengthening the party’s structure across the state.
He assured members that his leadership would prioritize unity, grassroots mobilization and internal democracy, stressing that the party must remain cohesive and focused in order to consolidate its dominance in Bayelsa politics.
Turnah further pledged to work closely with elected officials, party elders and youth leaders to reposition the party for future electoral victories while maintaining stability within its ranks.
