WAD DIARIES: Leadership and Listening

The Ijaw National Congress (INC) was established in 1991 with a clear and noble mandate: to unite the Ijaw people and advance their collective interests. It remains the highest socio-cultural organization in Ijaw land. Central to the objectives of the INC is the promotion and protection of Ijaw unity and national consciousness—fostering a strong sense of belonging and identity among the Ijaw people—while also addressing the persistent challenges of environmental degradation and pollution in the Niger Delta region.
Unity is the cornerstone of progress and sustainable development for any people. As the INC convention and elections draw near, the Ijaw nation stands at a defining moment—one that demands purposeful leadership. At such a critical time, we need a leader with conviction, vision, and the capacity to move the Ijaw nation forward.
That leader is High Chief (Hon.) McDonald Igbadiwei, the Prime Minister of the ancient Gbaraun Kingdom.
High Chief Igbadiwei is a man of proven capacity and ability, distinguished by impeccable character and unwavering integrity. Over the years, he has served the Ijaw nation in several strategic capacities, including as Publicity Secretary and Organising Secretary, contributing meaningfully to the growth and cohesion of the Congress.
He also represented the good people of Constituency 4, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, where he championed impactful programmes and projects focused on human capacity development and community empowerment.
The struggle for the liberation of the Ijaw nation and the pursuit of resource control in the Niger Delta is one that requires passion, resilience, and determined leadership. It is a struggle rooted in justice and aimed at elevating not only the Ijaw people but the entire Niger Delta to greater heights in this contemporary era.
High Chief McDonald Igbadiwei possesses the experience, exposure, and vision required to lead the INC at this critical juncture. Given the mandate, he has the capacity to translate our collective aspirations into tangible progress.
I therefore humbly call on, and passionately appeal to, our people—especially the delegates—to lend their support and cast their votes for High Chief (Hon.) McDonald Igbadiwei on 7th March 2026.
Together, let us choose unity, experience, and purposeful leadership.

Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha
31st January, 2026.
