APWEN BAYELSA CHAPTER HOSTS UNDERGRADUATE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP AWARD AND PUBLIC LECTURE AT FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OTUOKE

The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Bayelsa State Chapter, successfully hosted an Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship Award 2.0 and Public Lecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Federal University Otuoke

The event was led by the Chairman of APWEN Bayelsa Chapter, Engr. Ann Amalate Jonathan Obuebite, PhD FNSE, and accompanied by members of the Executive Committee. The programme was well coordinated by Engr. Ebiere Sylvanus Peresuodei.

In attendance were notable stakeholders, including the Pioneer Chairman of APWEN Bayelsa Chapter, Engr. Deborah Temeweidoubra Ebimienkumo, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Federal University Otuoke, represented by the Sub-Dean, Engr. Dr. Uku Eruni Philips; the Head of Civil Engineering Department, Engr. Dr. Ijaola Opololaoluwa Oladimarun; Head of Mechatronics Engineering, and Head of Petroleum Engineering ably represented by Engr. Julie Mamukuyomi, alongside other academic staff and students of the faculty.

The programme featured the AJOES (Ann Jonathan Obuebite Engineering Scholars) Scholarship Award aimed at recognizing and rewarding outstanding academic excellence among female engineering undergraduates.

This was complemented by a public lecture delivered by Engr. Jenny Fawei, a seasoned expert in Power Engineering, who spoke on the topic “Clean Energy for a Brighter Future.” Her lecture provided valuable insights into sustainable energy solutions and inspired students to embrace innovation and professionalism in engineering practice.

At the scholarship award session, three outstanding students from the Faculty of Engineering were recognized for their exceptional academic performance:

• Miss Sharon Onyedikachi Ejugh, Department of Civil Engineering, 400 Level (CGPA 4.74), was awarded a cash prize of ₦150,000 by the AJOES Foundation.

• Miss Preye Shallom Albert, Department of Mechatronics Engineering, 400 Level (CGPA 4.46), received a cash award of ₦120,000.

• Miss Oghenasomi Louisa Momodu, Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, 400 Level (CGPA 4.42), was awarded a cash prize of ₦100,000.

Consolation prizes of 50,000 naira were given to the 4th, 5th and 6th positions from the Departments Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering respectively.

Each presentation was greeted with rounds of applause as the awardees were celebrated for their dedication, discipline, and academic excellence. The event concluded with group photographs and networking sessions.

The programme reaffirmed APWEN Bayelsa Chapter’s commitment to empowering young women in engineering, promoting academic excellence, and supporting the development of future engineering leaders.
