• REPORT OF FOUR GIRLS FOUND DEAD IN AKENFA IS FALSE, UNFOUNDED AND MISLEADING BAYELSA POLICE COMMAND
• ARREST OF SUSPECTED RITUALIST
The Bayelsa State Police Command wish to clarify a false and misleading report circulating on social media alleging that four girls were found dead in an uncompleted building in Akenfa, Yenagoa.
The Command wish to state unequivocally that no such incident occurred and no death were recorded or reported to Akenfa Police Station or any part of Yenagoa Metropolis.
However, to keep the record straight, on Monday, 19th January, 2026, at about 3:30pm, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, acting on a distress call, arrested one Ogbe Joseph ‘m’ at an underground apartment suspected to be a shrine, located within an uncompleted storey building in Akenfa Community Yenagoa.
The suspect was arrested for allegedly attempting to use one name (withheld) aged 49 years, for suspected ritual purposes. The victim who appeared drugged and weak, was rescued alive and immediately rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention while Investigation is ongoing.
The CP urged members of the public to disregard unverified information, refrain from spreading false or misleading reports capable of inciting panic or fears and to always seek information through official means.
