APWEN Bayelsa Chair Attends NSE Investiture as Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu Emerges 35th President was the highlight at the State Banquet Hall, Aso Villa, Abuja, as engineering stakeholders from across Nigeria gathered for the historic investiture ceremony of Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu FNSE, MFR as the 35th President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
The Chairman of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Bayelsa Chapter, described the occasion as a proud and memorable milestone, noting her delight at attending the high-profile ceremony alongside her husband, Jonathan Robinson Obuebite. The event marked another defining moment in the long-standing history of the NSE, founded in 1956.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the formal transition from the outgoing president, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala FNSE, who made history as the first female President of the NSE. Serving as the 34th President from January 2024 to December 2025, Engr. Oguntala welcomed engineers to the ceremony and reflected on her impactful tenure, outlining key achievements that strengthened the Society and advanced professional excellence. Her leadership was widely applauded by members of APWEN and the broader engineering community.
In his acceptance remarks, the newly inaugurated President, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu FNSE, pledged to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor. He emphasized the need for engineering ministries and agencies to fully implement the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First” policy by prioritizing local engineers in projects and decision-making. He further stated that his administration would focus on enhancing the relevance of engineers in national policy discourse while positioning Nigerian engineers for increased global competitiveness.
The ceremony also recorded another significant milestone with the inauguration of Engr. Valerie Ifueko Agberagba FNSE, past President of APWEN, as Deputy President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. Her emergence was celebrated as a win for inclusiveness and gender representation in engineering leadership. She is expected to assume office as the 36th President of NSE in January 2028.
Observers described the newly inaugurated NSE Executive Council as a strong and visionary leadership team, poised to deliver results, promote inclusiveness, and advance the engineering profession beyond traditional boundaries.
As the ceremony concluded, goodwill messages poured in, with leaders expressing confidence that the new administration would steer the NSE to greater heights. The occasion was widely regarded as a proud moment for both the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, reinforcing the growing influence of women in engineering leadership across the country.
