University of Africa, Toru-Orua Makes Historic Debut at NUGA Zone L Preliminaries in Port Harcourt

The University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), marked its maiden appearance as an observer at the NUGA Zone L Preliminaries held in Port Harcourt, showcasing the institution’s commitment to sporting excellence. Ten universities from Zone L converged for the event hosted across the University of Port Harcourt and Rivers State University campuses.

Participating institutions included University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State University, Federal University Otueke, Niger Delta University Ammasoma, Maritime University Okerenkoko, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt, Imo State University Owerri, Federal University of Owerri, Bayelsa Medical University Yenagoa, and UAT.

UAT’s delegation, led by Dr. Nancy Nnebuihe Nwosu, Chairman of the University’s Recreation and Sports Committee, alongside Coach Ada Gwegwe and students, observed various sports including football, volleyball, handball, swimming, athletics, judo, karate, tennis, and basketball.

Speaking to the press, Dr. Nnebuihe Nwosu expressed delight in being part of UAT’s historic debut, highlighting key learnings from the zonal preliminaries. She commended Coach Ada Gwegwe’s dedication and extended profound gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Professor Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah and the university management for their support and approval.

Coach Ada Gwegwe echoed optimism, stating his dream of seeing UAT participate in NUGA has taken a significant step, noting UAT’s talented athletes and past successes, including medals won at the FISU Games.

UAT is set to conclude its observer status in Jos next month, aiming for full recognition and participation in next year’s NUGA Games.
