*9th Youth Games: Bayelsa Director of Sports Commends Team’s Performance*
Bayelsa State Director of Sports, Mr. Andrew Odeinyefa Aye, has lauded the performance of Team Bayelsa at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games taking place in Asaba, Delta State.
Speaking at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba Mr. Aye praised the determination and fighting spirit of the Bayelsa contingent, especially after the impressive victories the state recorded in Greco-Roman wrestling event.
Team Bayelsa’s Lucky Okoriye and Believe God Emmanuel secured gold medals in the 48kg and 55kg male categories respectively, defeating opponents from Oyo and Kwara States.
Mr. Aye, who was accompanied by Mr. Alaowei Opukeme (Technical Adviser to the Governor on Sports), Mr. Bibo Lambert (Head of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Bayelsa State Sports Council), and Olympic silver medalist Coach Blessing Oborududu, emphasized that despite facing several challenges — including questionable officiating in some events — the athletes had represented the state with pride.
He further emphasized the need for continued grooming and support of young athletes, stating that targeted developmental efforts will be put in place once the team returns to Yenagoa.
