POLITICAL ANTECEDENTS AND SOME ACHIEVEMENTS OF SEN Heineken Lokpobiri PhD

When a history is not known, misinterpretation and abuse is inevitable.
So sit-down, grab a bottle of cold drink while i take you through a brief political summary of the man called Heineken Lokpobiri.

The man Heineken Lokpobiri is a workaholic, that has been performing tremendously well right from his time as Speaker Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

AS THE SPEAKER BAYELSA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY.

Lokpobiri was adjudged the man of the people who in his time as the Pioneer Speaker of the State Assembly, ensured the autonomy of the legislative arm.
Lokpobiri’s name gained prominence when he stood his ground on issues that bothers on the interests of Bayelsans when he was at loggerheads with his former boss, Chief D.S.P Alamieyeseigha and he (Lokpobiri) was sacrificed for defending the constitutional rights of the 1st Assembly.

AS A SENATOR (1st $2rd term):
In the history of Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri stands tall in terms of service delivery and people oriented representation. No other representative has matched or outmatched his legacies and developmental strides embarked upon by him when he was in the Nigerian Senate.
Lokpobiri chaired and headed the Senate Committee on Sports, headed the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Transport, headed the committee on Water Resources and was also a member of the committee on Solid Minerals amongst others, In which he initiated the National Sports Commission Bill, Sponsored the Safety at Sports and Recreation Events Bill, the Petroleum Act Amendment Bill, the Anti-Trust (Enforcement Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, the National Agency for Elderly persons bill, the Trade Union Act Amendment Bill and the Federal Capital Authority Recovery of Premises Amendment Bill and more.

HUMAN EMPOWERMENT:
Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri embarked on several projects where equipments for artisans and private business men and women were procured and distributed to his constituents,
including poverty alleviation programmes at different times, distributed life empowerment materials to uplift the wellbeing of the people with cash support in the Bayelsa west senatorial district. Among these items, some are marine engines, tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, cassava mailing machines, financial support,etc.
He also built and renovated schools and health centres and also equipped many existing health centres with medical equipment across Bayelsa west.

AS MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRIC AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT:
when he was appointed as a minister. He utilised this opportunity to attract alots of federal projects which some senior ministers could not be able to achieve, but he influence alots to Bayelsa State Among these projects are, a giant pipe borne water project at Otuoke, former president Goodluck Jonathan’s community, a giant pipe borne water projects at Ekeremor, Aleibiri erosion protections, Peremobiri rice farm upgrades, amongst others.
He also brought many rural road projects to the Niger Delta region, most especially Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa State respectively.
He also brought solar energy lights in almost all the communities in Bayelsa State, including Gwegwe, Etegwe and Igbogene in Yenagoa LGA; Agbere, Sagbama, Toru-Ebeni, Okumbiri, Ebedebiri in Sagbama LGA; Ekeremor, Aleibiri, Azagbene, Ogbotubo, Egbemo-Angalabir Beautiful Gate Zion, Temekiri, Tamogbene, Foutorugbene in Ekeremor LGA amongst others.

these are all verifiable facts.

Fast-forward to the present.

AS A MINISTER OF STATE FOR PETROLEUM RESOURCES (OIL):

Heineken Lokpobiri’s policies have significantly boosted
Nigeria’s oil sector. As the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Lokpobiri has implemented various strategies to increase oil production, attract foreign investment, and strengthen institutional frameworks.

Some of his notable achievements include decreased oil theft, leading to increased oil production from 1 million barrels per day in 2023 to 1.8 million barrels per day in 2025, including condensates.
He has also attracted significant investments of over $16.6 billion in investment commitments to the oil sector, strengthened institutional frameworks, and ensured the constant availability of petroleum products!

Additionally, Lokpobiri has introduced policies to promote indigenous participation in the oil and gas value chain as he pushed and supported the maintenance and completion of the Rivers state and Dangote Refineries respectively while others are currently under maintenance as he continue to push for the construction of other abandoned refineries.
he advocated for gas as a transition fuel 2, and his efforts have positioned Nigeria as the African Energy Bank Headquarter and also as a major player in the global energy landscape.

It is no new news that his work as the current minister of state for petroleum resources (oil) has attracted so much applause and recognitions from far and near, and the President is confident and convinced of Sen.Lokpobiri’s capacity in service delivery in line with the renewed hope agenda.
