PDP to Reorganise Reigneth Awudumu’s Botched Birthday Celebrations; Urges Government to Uphold Tolerance and Respect for Citizens in line with Party’s manifesto

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa State, wishes to express its unwavering support for Ms. Reigneth Awudumu, a prominent social media influencer and a dedicated member of PDP in Ogbia Ward 2, who has been an instrumental figure in our party’s successes during the 2019 and 2023 gubernatorial campaigns.

It is deeply regrettable that on May 17, 2023, less than 24 hours before her planned 26th birthday celebrations, Ms. Awudumu was unjustly arrested based on a petition filed against her by John Sambo, a domestic aide to Governor Douye Diri. The subsequent denial of her bail and the court charges that followed not only disrupted her celebrations but also raised concerns regarding the state of civil liberties and the safety of citizens in our dear state.

In light of these events, the PDP Caretaker Working Committee ably led by the State Acting Chairman of the Party George Turnah, MON has decided to take decisive action to reorganise and host what will be a grand birthday celebration for Ms. Awudumu. This event will not only serve as a tribute to her resilience but also as a demonstration of our commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all members of society, especially those who dare to voice their opinions and hold leaders accountable.

The PDP calls on the Diri led Bayelsa state government to embrace a culture of tolerance and mutual respect in line with the Party’s Constitution and manifesto, recognizing that diversity of opinion is vital to the health of our democracy. It is imperative that the prosperity administration of Bayelsa State Government under Governor Diri’s leadership encourages open dialogue and engagement instead of resorting to intimidation and suppression of voices, particularly those of young leaders like Reigneth, who are committed to bettering our society.

We will announce the details of the reorganised birthday celebrations soon. We invite all members of the party, supporters, and the public to join us in showing solidarity with Ms. Awudumu, celebrating her unwavering spirit and reaffirming our collective stand for justice and respect for individual rights.

Let us stand together, promote our values, and enhance the democratic ethos in Bayelsa State.
