Gloria Oruebimiekumor, a garri seller from Tombia Market in Bayelsa State, has won the ₦1 million empowerment grant from High Chief Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.
Gloria’s comment stood out from over 5,000 entries submitted for the empowerment initiative. She explained the difficulties she faces selling garri under an umbrella during rainy days, with her goods often soaked and no proper place to rest.
Her plea read:
“Please sir I really need this money for my GARRI business, I sell with an umbrella in tombia market in bayelsa stayand it really difficult during the raining days. My market gets wets most times when I return the next day my market is soaked with water ( ( so place to rest even when it sunny. Please sir @axelynn15 please help me so I could get a chop and put my GARRI business in good shape sir.”
Chief Kestin Pondi selected her story for its honesty and the clear need to improve her business conditions. Gloria will now be able to acquire a proper shop and scale her business under safer and more stable conditions—transforming her journey from selling garri under an umbrella to becoming a proud shop owner.
The initiative is part of Pondi’s ongoing efforts to support grassroots entrepreneurs in the Niger Delta region and across the country.
