The Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN), Bayelsa Chapter, led by Engr. Amalate Ann Obuebite, PhD, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, PhD, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. The visit aimed to introduce the new Executive Committee (Exco) and share the five-point agenda for the next two years.
The APWEN delegation led by the Chairman, Engr. Amalate Ann Obuebite, PhD, FNSE, outlined its programs:

*STEM Sensitization*: Increase STEM awareness among secondary school students, covering 30% of government schools in each Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State.
*Women Empowerment*: Encourage women professionals to excel as engineers by subsidizing their registration fees, enabling them to become certified engineers.

*Technical Skills Development*: Introduce a ‘Tools and Tiara’ program for school dropouts to acquire technical skills in collaboration with established workshops in the state.
*Scholarship Program*: Establish the Ann Jonathan Obuebite Engineering Scholars (AJOES) for female engineering undergraduates in 300 levels with the highest performance.
*Mentorship Program*: Implement a mentor-mentee program, pairing experienced engineers with young professionals, providing guidance and support for career advancement.
The Chairman, Engr. Amalate Ann Obuebite PhD. officially invited the Deputy Governor to her inauguration ceremony as the distinguished guest of honour, where he will receive an award. The event is scheduled to take place on February 18th, 2025.

In response, Senator Ewhrudjakpo welcomed the APWEN delegation, thanked them for a smooth transition, offered fatherly advice, and promised to attend the inauguration ceremony He assured continued support for the association and encouraged them to work in peace and unity. The visit concluded with a group photograph of the Deputy Governor, his entourage, and the APWEN Bayelsa delegation.
