TURNING POINT TODAY’S DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR SATURDAY 2/04/2022 BY DR DAVID JEREMIAH | READ
When Jesus began His earthly ministry, He went to Nazareth, where He was raised, and entered the synagogue on the Sabbath “as His custom was” (Luke 4:16). He was recognized as “Joseph’s son” (verse 22). But this time, He did something unexpected. He read from the Isaiah scroll about the coming Messiah and said, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (verse 21). Part of His reading was that the Messiah would bring “recovery of sight to the blind”—a ministry of healing (verse 18).
Is that why Jesus healed the sick and afflicted—to validate His credentials as the Messiah? He wasn’t out to prove anything; He just did what the Messiah would do. But there was another reason Jesus healed the sick: Because “He was moved with compassion for them.” When Jesus saw the afflicted, He loved them by ministering to them, by healing their diseases.
Jesus demonstrates the depths of His love by His compassion for the sick. If you are afflicted in some way, know that Jesus looks with compassion on your need.
Christ is the ocean, in which every drop is infinite compassion. Henry Law
