Lagos, Nigeria — Celebration erupted from the creeks to the cities on the 6th of June 2026 as Queen Soye Karibi George (Aganaba) was crowned Miss World Nigeria, with the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr., leading tributes from Lagos where he witnessed the victory live.
In an emotional statement following the event, Sir Jonathan congratulated the Bayelsa-born queen and described her as “indeed the Amazon of the Mangrove and an excellent model for the creek and Ijaw Youth.”
“I watched her command that stage with intelligence, brilliancy, and a creative spirit that left no doubt,” Lokpobiri said. “From her first appearance to her final answer, she carried herself with the grace and grit of our people. She flew the flag of the Ijaw Nation high, and she is coming home with the victory.”
The IYC President commended Queen Soye for her poise, eloquence, and consistent excellence throughout all her performances, noting that her win is more than a personal triumph. “This is a victory for every Ijaw daughter who dares to dream beyond the labels. She has shown the world the beauty, brain, and boldness that rise from the mangroves.”
Looking ahead, Lokpobiri expressed strong hope for the global stage: “We believe she will eventually come home with victory in the forthcoming Miss World Championship representing Nigeria. The Ijaw Nation stands with her.”
Mr. President also extended deep gratitude to Ijaw leaders and youths worldwide for their prayers, solidarity, and overwhelming support throughout Queen Soye’s journey. “This win belongs to all of us. Your voices and votes lifted her. Thank you for believing.”
Queen Soye, former Face of Port Harcourt City 2023-2024 and Winner of Miss Africa International, now carries Nigeria’s hopes to Miss World. Her pet project, the Beyond Labels Initiative, is already gaining international attention for its focus on girl child education and dismantling stereotypes.
